Accessible Library
We give people with visual impairments access to the audio course content they need in order to continue their education.
Volunteers record test and course books that follow the school curriculum, along with current content such as lecture notes, magazines and newspapers. People with visual impairments can reach these recordings free of charge and without limit through a user-friendly website and the Android and iOS apps.
There are more than 280,000 people with visual impairments in Türkiye. According to data from the Council of Higher Education, only 8,133 young people with visual impairments entered university between 2015 and 2019. They sit the same exams as sighted students, and we feel a responsibility to support them towards equal opportunity in education.

How do you become a recording volunteer?
- 1Volunteers who want to record apply through our website.
- 2Volunteers first take the Recording Training (2 hours), then the App Training (2 hours).
- 3After the training, volunteers start recording the book assigned to them, either at the studio or at home or in the office.
- 4If the recording is made at home or in the office, the first 30 minutes are sent to the project team to be checked.
- 5Volunteers whose check recording is approved then record around 8 hours a month, 2 hours a week.
- 6The finished book is sent to the project team; after technical editing and assembly it is uploaded to the Accessible Library.
Our goals
- To increase the number of audio reference books young people with visual impairments need, above all to prepare for the university exam
- To increase the amount of current content (magazines, stories, novels) available to people with visual impairments
- To make the recorded material easier to reach on engelsizkutuphane.com and the mobile apps through user-friendly design
- To start a volunteering programme for recording and to make it sustainable
- To build social solidarity and empathy towards people with visual impairments
- To sustain the project through private sector cooperation and make it an example in the field of corporate social responsibility
